Worker Bees and workaholics

I watched "Bee Movie" released in 2007 to get an idea of the worker bee-it helped a lot because the bees are all dressed in clothes and the flight bees (the ones that get the honey) are all clothed as warriors for battle whereas the rest of the hive is a massive honey factory where they store it. the only job the bees will ever have has to centre on the collecting honey process until they die. -sometimes for me it feels like that's all the economy seems to do, work work work until they drop.
The plot is based around this one bee who doesn't want to be a worker bee and decides to leave the hive. it kind of works into my idea of there being too much uniformism, labels...
I want to use this in my sketchbook looking at what it means to have a full time job and what we spend the money on that we earn.

Our way of life

This was something that came up in "What science has brought us?"

Our way of life is based on what we eat, what we buy, what we throw away and our general patterns in the course of our day to day lives. this made me think about the way we think based on what happens because we seem to be quite reactionary-motivated to feel or do whatever has crossed our path eg.

The worker bee lifestyle-A.K.A a workaholic or an ergomaniac is someone who is addicted to work -you might think this means they get a lot of work done but actually most tend to be ineffective employees because they never relax. workaholic is also something we would never have heard of in the 50's because so many things have charged. I used wikipedia.org to help me get some of this data.

In my routine I notice that the worker bee phrase is applied so often, it seems a lesser number to count those not included-I think of it when i see numerous men and women all dressed in suits with a glazed look in their eyes walking towards me every morning from Liverpool Street and they scare me because they don't look real.

Although I also think the worker bee applies to the suits rushing around during rush hour like busy bees- such is the attitude.

the corporate ladder for women has changed-now they are having children later in life

our life expectancy has risen

what i need to do is look at film that shows this, like the Bee Movie a cartoon strating at the hive with bees but they all act like people.

need to draw more pictures in sketchbook to support this.

Science Museum Part 2

In this one it was interesting to see the different layers and how they interact with eachother.

Visiting the science museum was good because it gave me ideas for methods, techniques and materials.
I might include some ideas about structure and line in my sketchbook but probably not the photos.
the trip all in all was useful because there was such a mixture of science that nothing was boring but the most interesting part for me was the childrens section, which allowed me to interact with the science and technology.

What Science and technology have brought us...

Science in the Science Museum

the maths section:
it was interesting seeing all the possible shapes and how the lines connect with eachother to form a bigger shape. all these small shapes inbetween used to build up a bigger shape, it shows a complexity in lines.

I'm not sure if i want to use this perhaps the idea of lines used to make up a bigger picture is a good idea.

so researching into science ties in with my project so i'm also brainstorming ideas for that."What science has brought us" or what technology has brought us. the various answers were: Medicine-cures for diseases, technology, modern agriculture, drinking water, hygiene, our way of lifeI feel this to be a more narrowed search and I want to focus mainly on our way of life and technology and how they affect eachother. Need to go to science museum focus on inventions, on what we used, on what we still use today and interested to see the developemental science-what we may use in the future. don't continue with other sciences, focus of the science in our lifestyles: THE ONES WE TAKE FOR GRANTED.
this is helping in grasping a rate to how fast our knowledge is growing and how fast the technology itself is growing.

Social Technology

to begin with I wrote the project proposal around the guidelines that my reserach would be based on social technology meaning communication technologies like the internet and email. from there i want to look at the rapid growth of this technology and how it has grown into a problem, with personal details on the internet and viruses.

i also want to look at the advantages to having such a technology that has allowed us to come into contact with people over far distances and made travel easier. i want to study new ways of communicating like facebook and myspace and them as an example of breakdown in human relations and the building of them too.

what i want to gain from this is an idea into the human dependency on technology and deciding on how much is too much.

going off to the science museum to find traces of our technology, our successes and our failures.
